GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY !!!
“THE FIRST ONE HUNDRED Years of Philippine Komiks and Cartoons” coffee table book will be launched on Oct. 16, 2009 at 5PM at the Powerbooks, Megamall. Written by Dr. John A. Lent of Temple University and published by Yonzon Associates. Painstaking data and visual research.
Size: 10” x 11” (bigger than usual), in glorious full color, 156 pages to be exact. Three main chapters by Lent, supplemented by other writers Doy del Mundo, Orvy Jundis, Glady Gimena, Manny Auad, Beth Chionglo, Aileen Casis, Guia Yonzon and me. Prize is only P1,500., just the price of a US graphic novel.
It’s a whole 100 years gallery from Jose Rizal to the present day Pinoy artists. This book will make you proud of who we are in the comics dome! I didn’t realize too until we got into it.
Here is one version of the cover, the jacket. And some sample spreads.

Those who will reserve and pay before the launch date will be given a 20% discount. Pay only P1,200.00. Please contact Ms. Jing Espiritu at 8929421 for details.

Yung nasa kaliwa, yun ba yung DI Trese? I think it patterned after Dick Tracy.

I remember DI Trese. It was a pretty cool Dick Tracy type of character (even the name is pattered after Dick Tracy), but more realistic. The artist for that series, Jesse Santos is pretty much alive and kicking.

That comic book in this page however, is simply "TRESE", and is not related at all to DI Trese. It's a supernatural detective series which features Alexandra Trese who investigates and cracks cases that's beyond the normal. The book features very clever ways in which traditional Pinoy mythologies are presented to a younger generation. It's actually one of the most popular local comic book titles right now. Two volumes containing 4 stories each are available at bookstores, and a third book containing 5 stories (bringing the total stories to 13) will be out at Komikon on October 18.

Thanks Gerry for the clarification. I am completely out of touch about new trends in comics. I just remember the old ones I've read before when I was a kid growing up there.
