FILIPINO COMICS ARTISTS are internationally recognized for the excellence of their works in the past six decades or so. Ours is a vibrant craft. Starting September, old readers will reminisce on while the young ones will discover the extent and depth of local comics masters.
SM Fairview will hold an exhibit “Komiks Yaring Pinoy” on September 21-September 27. SM Hypermart will host the exhibit on September 27-October 5.
“Komiks Yaring Pinoy” will feature samples of the works of Francisco Coching, Nestor Redondo, Alfredo Alcala, Larry Alcala, and more.
The younger generation of comics artists in the show will include Gerry Alanguilan, Lienel Francis Yu, Arnold Arre, Gilbert Monsanto and Whilce Portacio. Most of them have also done comics for US publishing houses like Marvel and DC.
Komiks Yaring Pinoy will also show works from present day comics publications and also of some of the members of the Samahang Kartunista ng Pilipinas (SKP). The SKP is composed of cartoonists from practically all the newspapers and tabloids in the country.
The show is one of the pre-event activity for the First Philippine International Cartoons, Comics, and Animation (PICCA) Festival slated on Oct 15 to 18.
PICCA will hold contests, more exhibits, workshops, talks, book launches, and animation showings mostly in the Ortigas Commercial and Business District, namely SM Megamall, Podium Mall, Poveda College, and the Development Academy of the Philippines Pasig.
